5 DC Comics Stories That Deserve The Compact Comics Treatment Next

These stories would be perfect for DC's Compact Comics!

DC’s Compact Comics has been a major hit since the publisher revealed that some of its most iconic stories are being reprinted in the smaller, more affordable format. Making some of its greatest comics—including Watchmen, Batman: The Court of Owls, and All-Star Superman—more accessible with a 9.99 USD price point was a brilliant idea, allowing more readers than ever to check them out and read full stories.

With the line’s success, here are five DC Compact Comics I’d like to see come out next.

Batman: Under the Red Hood (2005) - Judd Winnick, Doug Manke, Shane Davis, Eric Battle, Paul Lee, and more

The transformation and resurrection of Jason Todd from Robin to Red Hood remains one of the boldest and most brilliant reinventions of a character ever and that all unfolds in the excellent Batman: Under the Red Hood. The iconic storyline takes a deep dive into the complicated relationship between the hero and his former sidekick while putting Batman’s code of ethics under the microscope. It’s a modern classic that shows there are still plenty of twists left in the world of the Dark Knight.

DC: Mech (2022) - Kenny Porter, Baldemar Rivas, Mike Spicer, and Tom Napolitano

The premise is fairly simple: what if the greatest heroes in the DC Universe had giant mechs and had to work together to stop the looming threat of Darkseid? DC: Mech is extremely fun, over-the-top, and packed full of mech action featuring wild reimaginations of characters and their with mech action that will have readers cheering on the wild reimaginations of characters and their powers via massive robots.

DC: The New Frontier (2004) - Darwyn Cooke, Dave Stewart and Jared J. Fletcher

The magnum opus from comic book legend Darwyn Cooke, DC: The New Frontier is among the most important, acclaimed, and influential comics ever made. Telling the story of DC heroes through the Golden Age into the Silver Age, New Frontier masterfully takes a large cast of characters and offers the definitive version of many of them. Filled with political intrigue, jaw-dropping art, and incredible character moments, New Frontier is epic in every sense of the word.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2021) - Tom King, Bilquis Evely, Mat Lopes, and Clayton Cowles

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a gorgeously illustrated story featuring Kara-El as she seeks purpose while teaming up with a young alien looking for revenge against a deadly villain. With otherworldly art and world-building, emotional and captivating writing, and a beginning, middle, and end, the story is perfect for DC’s Compact Comics - even more so with a film currently in development in the DCU.

Robin & Batman (2022) - Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen and Steve Wands

While there have been many stories starring Batman and Robin, Robin & Batman focuses on the difficult early adventures of Dick Grayson and his struggles in becoming a hero. It’s a much-needed perspective change, putting the focus on a young Dick and showing the growing pains of becoming Robin - all gorgeously illustrated by Dustin Nguyen.
