Synap #1 arrives in comic book stores on November 27!
Synap by Chris Moses (Control Z), Andrea Giannini, James Offredi, and Reed Hinckley-Barnes is a brand-new series from Mad Cave Studios following a family-run private defense company that secretly tries to assemble a giant robot as they try to train a host for once they get all the pieces. The series mixes mech action with the world of conspiracies and threats. We spoke with Moses about the new comic and his excitement in bringing the world to life.

Synap #1 arrives in comic book stores on November 27, 2024.
“In the year 2030, a family-run private defense company, Synap, secretly puts together the pieces of a mysterious giant robot while training psychically gifted individuals to one day control it. However, with the startling increase in UFO sightings, the family finds their time is running out to assemble the ancient machine.”
What were the biggest challenges/most fun aspects of building this world?
The biggest challenge was trying to balance and add the UFO lore/rabbit holes while also telling a cohesive and original story. UFO or UAP as they are now called, history/stories go back to Roswell, and if you go deep into the rabbit hole they go even further back. Finding a way to tell a story and build the Synap world when the real world story is so deep, interesting and still unfolding was definitely a challenge! The most fun was figuring out exactly what effects having a Giant robot crashing into Earth would have, and what that would do to the people that discovered it and wanted to put it back together!
What can you say about the art in this series?
The art is expertly done by Andrea Giannini! He really did a great job at bringing this book to life and giving it a unique feel and look! I’m glad we are both making our direct market debut on this book!
This features an interesting family dynamic that doesn't seem particularly healthy. How do the parents' approaches differ? Is the father putting the interests of discovery/science/power over the interests of his children?
Roke, Angeline and Shiloh’s Dad, definitely puts the interests of the company over that of his children. He is a man on a mission, one that has been going on since before he was around. We can see that his kids are a means to an end. Why is he so driven to put together this robot? You’ll just have to read and find out!
What do you love most about conspiracy theories/UFOs and how did you channel it into this series?
First, I’ll get on my soapbox and say that UFOs/UAPs are not a conspiracy theory! Regardless of if they are little green men or not, they are a real phenomena experienced and observed by everyday sane people and more importantly our troops. They’re seen over nuclear facilities, and military bases all the time. Whatever is going on, it's taken seriously by Congress, so much so they’ve now had multiple public hearings and private briefings on them. Clearly it's a BIG question mark on what they are. And that makes it such a rich subject to explore, imagine and create in. No one has the answers, at least publicly, and so it's an incredibly fun sandbox to craft wild stories like secret government organizations putting together giant robots!
How excited are you to finally get this book into the hands of readers?
I'm extremely excited! Mad Cave Studios has been an amazing publisher to work with and have been instrumental through the production of this book. It's been in the oven cooking for quite a while, so it's a beautiful thing to finally see it out on shelves and in readers hands!
