Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #1 Blind Bag - Is It Worth It?

Skybound is doing something very cool with Battle Beast #1

This post is a quickie, but I wanted to write about Skybound Comics’ newest blind bag offering for Battle Beast #1 - a new comic from Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley. For $3.99 USD, a first-of-its-kind blind bag program gives readers a chance to pull several variants ranging from standard covers to incentive covers and new reprints. Here’s what’s available:

  • The solicited covers include incentive variants, including high incentive covers.

  • A new printing of Invincible #19, the first appearance of Battle Beast!

  • A special advance edition of Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #2, allowing fans to read the next shocking issue in its entirety

  • And, in partnership with Marvel Comics, a reprint of Marvel Team-Up #14, the historic first meeting of Invincible and Spider-Man—and features art by Invincible co-creator Cory Walker!

I pre-ordered three copies from my local comic shop, Strange Adventures (the best comic shop in the world), and here’s what I pulled: a blank cover variant, a 1:10 incentive variant from E.J. Su, and a 1:25 incentive variant with a cover from Kael Ngu. For roughly $15 Canadian dollars, that’s an absolutely solid deal.

The excitement of opening a blind bag sort of feels like gambling, but the stakes are so low in terms of cost that it’s absolutely worth the price. And for those who score the major incentive variants or special comics, you are paying very little for those, albeit with the help of some considerable luck. I’d highly recommend getting a blind bag or two and testing your luck — even with standard covers, you’re getting the first issue of a pretty fun comic.

Check your local comic book store to see if you can snag a copy!
