Josh Trujillo talks Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #1 - Creator Owned Art

Josh Trujillo chats about his favorite piece of comic art

Josh Trujillo is a comic book writer with credits on everythinf from Captain America: Aaron Fischer (with Cara McGee), Hulkling & Wiccan (with Tokitokoro), Rick and Morty: World’s Apart (with Tony Fleecs and Jarrett Williams) and the soon-ending Blue Beetle ongoing (with Adrian Gutierrez) series from DC Comics. He’s also worked in the game industry with credits on MultiVersus, Batman: The Enemy Within, and Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.

I asked Josh about his favorite piece of art from his collection as part of a new series called “Creator Owned Art.” Here’s what he said:

This page is one of the most precious things I own: the very first page to Blue Beetle Graduation Day 1! I suspected Adrián Gutierrez was a superstar from the moment I saw his early Jaime designs, and this page confirmed it. This page is actually older than most of the BB:GD art, because it was a part of the Round Robin competition DC was doing at the time. It wouldn’t be until almost a year later that we got to start work on the real issue.

And then just beyond the stunning visuals, it means so much to me to have some original art from the book. My friendships with the entire team have grown over the years we worked on this book, especially with Adrián. Here’s hoping this is the beginning of a career of incredible collaborations.
