The Best Comic Covers Coming Out This Week - January 15th

Here are five covers I love coming out this week!

Many great comics are coming out this week, and with the releases, I’m starting a new series on Comic Frontier, where I showcase my favorite covers of the week! So, without further adieu:

COVER OF THE WEEK: G.I. Joe #3 - Skybound Comics - Patricia Martin Samaniego - I was truly blown away by this cover from Samaniego. It’s effortlessly stylish, tells a story, and uses iconic imagery from the franchise to craft something truly brilliant. It’s a bummer it’s a 1:50 incentive variant, but hopefully, Skybound Comics will give readers another chance to get the fantastic artwork at cover price in the future.

New Gods #2 - DC Comics - Mike Perkins - Honestly, any of the covers for New Gods #2 could have made this list, but Mike Perkins’ showing off Metron at the Source Wall is an utterly epic image brilliantly showcasing the grand cosmic mythology of the DC Universe.

The Incredible Hulk #21 - Marvel Comics - Martin Simmonds - Simmonds is one of the most critically acclaimed working artists in the business, with his work on The Department of Truth being among the best in the entire industry. So, it’s no surprise his new Hulk cover perfectly captures the inner rage of Bruce Banner and Hulk. The art reminds me favorably of the work of Bill Sienkiewicz - which is a huge compliment

You Won’t Feel a Thing #1 - DSTLRY - Jae Lee - You Won’t Feel a Thing may feature superstar creators, but in introducing a new world and cast of characters to an audience, you need an image that really captures attention. Lee’s cover does precisely that. The teeth on the wire, the hands clasped together, full lipstick, and blood in their eyes will have readers wanting to know more about what’s happening ASAP.

Space Ghost #9- Dynamite Comics - Anthony Marques - I’m not super familiar with Marques’ work, but his cover for Space Ghost #9 manages to feel like the different generations of the character rolled into one, with lines and thickness reminiscent of John Romita Jr. Simply put, if I saw this on a shelf, I’d pick it up based on the cover art alone.
