The Most Exciting Marvel/DC Comics Announcements at NYCC (so far)

Here's what I can't wait to see!

NYCC is currently underway, and several new series (and updates on others) have been revealed with the event! Here’s what I’m most excited about so far!

Absolute Martian Manhunter

Two of the best comics of the year are The Ultimates by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri and Mariko Tamaki and Javier Rodgiruez’s Zatanna: Bring Down the House. Camp and Rodriguez are teaming up for Absolute Martian Manhunter, with DC showcasing a bold and strange new design for the hero. This tremendous creative team hasn’t missed with any of their previous work. Together, the pair might produce the best book of the Absolute line in 2025.

Jeremy Adams on Aquaman

Jeremy Adams has consistently produced excellent and fun work on The Flash, Green Lantern, and other DC projects. He’s the perfect voice to breathe new life into Aquaman in the DC Universe — teaming up with John Timms for a new ongoing series launching in January. Adams has proven time and time again that he knows how to write compelling stories, and it’s about damn time Arthur Curry got a chance to shine. And don’t worry, Adams is still writing Green Lantern.

Rise of Emperor Doom

Doctor Doom has been deserving of a new spotlight for some time, and following the excellent Doom one-shot from Jonathan Hickman and Sanford Greene and the villain becoming the Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Universe, Marvel appeared to be gearing up for one. With Ryan North and R.B. Silva writing The Rise of Emperor Doom, a status quo-changing miniseries, the publisher clearly has big plans — and with North doing an incredible job on FF, he’s a fine choice to write the five-issue series, which launches in February.

Power Man: Timeless

A great one-shot gets a new series from an awesome creative team of Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Bernard Chang. What’s not to love?
