Stephanie Williams Talks Bayonetta/Bob Burger Crossover Art (Yes, Really) - Creator Owned Art
The talented writer talks a very special piece of art from their collection

Stephanie Williams is the talented writer behind Nubia and the Amazons, Nubia: Coronation Special, Nubia: Queen of the Amazons, Wakanda, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Wreck and Roll, New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident, Street Sharks, and Wonder Woman.
Williams talked to me as part of Comic Frontier’s Creator Owned Art series, where comic creators share some of their favorite art pieces from their own personal collection and the stories behind them. Williams’s piece is definitely one of the most… unique to date.
"The piece of original art I treasure most is also probably the one that made the artist raise an eyebrow when he first read the brief. I commissioned Joshua Swaby, aka SwayArt, to mash up Linda Belcher from Bob's Burgers and Bayonetta, the video game icon, and yes, I knew exactly what I was asking. I knew Sway's first reaction was going to be something like "girl, what?", but I also knew that once he sat down with it, he'd get the vision completely. And he did. The piece turned out perfect.
What I love about it is how much it says about me as a creator. It's silly. It's unhinged in the best way. But it also comes from a genuine place. Both Linda and Bayonetta are characters I deeply adore, and I think they have more in common than people give them credit for. More than anything, this commission captures what I try to bring to everything I do, which is a sense of fun, a willingness to lean into the unexpected, and the hope that the people I work with enjoy the ride as much as I do. You can feel in the finished piece that Sway had fun drawing it, and that matters to me enormously.

Sway is an incredibly skilled and talented artist, but beyond the craft, he's just a beautiful human being. Getting to know him has been one of the real joys of my creative life, and I'm deeply grateful to call him a friend. This piece sits at the intersection of everything. My love for these characters, my creative spirit, and a friendship I cherish.”
Thanks so much to Williams for showing off the piece! You can follow her on BlueSky here.
